FACES & PLACES

Is it jazz, is it Soho or is it just 10 years of joy. Jazz Noir was the black and white classic look of jazz photography. Places & Faces is a wider look, its a look at what is like spending time in the west end all hours. At different times of day the mood can change in mins. From empty streets in the middle of lockdown to a rainy night of party people. I’ve seen it all, the most hunting was early mornings during 2021 in locked down London. Finding myself just walking in the heart of London feeling like the only person alive, I loved it.

You see a different side to the west end, it’s almost like its mask is removed, you see it for how it really is. In a way it’s sad and unloved but it’s the real unedited version of life in a city emptied and stripped of its purpose.

Photographing one or two shows a week at Ronnie Scotts during lockdown I feel was my downfall. I got used to the sense of solitude in London and I liked it. After I found myself feeling very uncomfortable being the busy streets after leaving the club at night and could not wait to get to Charring Cross to catch the train home.

In my mind it’s always raining, its magical, the small and the feel of London in the rain.

Life is a journey and so is Faces & Places

It can be a lonely city.

More to come in time. It’s going to be a big book.
